Anchor Lutheran School operates as an accredited educational program for children age 3 through the 8th Grade. We are accredited through both National Lutheran School Accreditation and AdvancedED. In addition to our Kindergarten through 8th Grade classes, program features include full-day Child Care with an Early Childhood Education program for Preschoolers, and Before and After School Child Watch for our elementary level students. Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the children and families whom we touch while providing quality, relevant education and Christian awareness, preparing children to become lifelong learners and successful adults.
"Anchor Lutheran is a wonderful school and I'm glad we chose it for our son. You just have great, warm feeling when you walk in the front door. It's like you’re part of a little community going to this school.” "The feeling of family and happiness is instant when you walk in. It is such a comfortable place for adults and children alike.”
These comments come from current school parents (March 2014), one new to our school while the other from a family with us for many years. The words are common to how families feel here at Anchor. School is so much more than about preparing children for high test scores. We’ve created a special place for students and families, a place people feel at home, a place they love to be. That joy of community, the feel of family, supports and enhances a learning experience for our children that goes far beyond reading, math, and writing.
Anchor Lutheran School has been partnering with parents for over thirty years in meeting the Christian daycare, preschool, and K-8 educational needs of children from throughout the Anchorage community. Our School earned accreditation through the Northwest Accreditation Commission in 1987 (now operating as AdvancED), and achieved additional accreditation through National Lutheran Schools Accreditation in 1999, serving as hallmarks of our program quality and our commitment to ongoing improvement and growth. Anchor is one of approximately 2,100 schools affiliated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (including early childhood centers, elementary schools, high schools, and universities providing both undergraduate and graduate degrees), a school system that dates back to the 1840‘s and that is the largest Christian Protestant school system in our nation.
Anchor Lutheran School operates as a Christian alternative to other educational and childcare programs in our community. We believe that many of the influences that affect development and character formation may be positively directed in a Christian atmosphere. In order to ensure proper development and Christian direction, we offer a quality academic educational program centered around Christ and His example for living.
It is the purpose of Anchor Lutheran to assist the home environment in developing the total child: mind, body, and soul. We equip children with tools necessary to carry on lives of confidence and security in a challenging world. Through the experiences gained at Anchor Lutheran, children are better able to cope with the everyday problems of this world while keeping their sights on Jesus our Savior and the hope of eternal life.
We give our parents an annual opportunity to share their thoughts on “how we’re doing” through a comprehensive Parent Survey. We are quite thorough, as we care deeply about the opinions of parents, our active partners in the education of our students. The school administration and Board of Directors review the survey responses and utilize them to help guide decisions about school improvement and the implementation of programs and procedures to help us more effectively serve out students and families. We are thankful that survey responses each year demonstrate that the overwhelming majority of families believe we are completely on the right track! We invite you to click the link below to review this year’s survey statistics. Additional responses submitted in text are not included in this report (although that information is also extremely helpful to us).
We realize that families have a wide variety of educational choices for their children. At Anchor, we provide the many different aspects of a well-rounded learning environment, while emphasizing lives of Christian compassion and active service to others. We believe no other school in Anchorage provides children with the same high level of academic instruction, exposure to the arts, and training in technology while effectively emphasizing the more important aspects of life: faith-driven kindness, compassion, and acts of service. Anchor alumni don’t just excel in their future academic endeavors; they excel as individuals, making the world around them better as they live their lives for the Lord.
